Melissa Crosby, 18, a senior at Chester High School, was awarded one of seven $1000 Illinois DAR scholarships available to high school students who will attend an institute of higher learning in the state.
The Liberty Bell of the West Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored Crosby’s application.  Crosby will be recognized during the Youth Day Luncheon during the Illinois State Organization NSDAR Conference on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington, Illinois.
Crosby has enrolled at the Southwestern Illinois College at Red Bud and will study elementary education and hopes to be able to become a first grade teacher in Randolph County, Illinois.  Crosby’s application detailed her academic achievements and her future goals which promoted the support from the local chapter and, ultimately, recognition by the three-person state scholarship committee.
“Melissa Crosby’s impressive character is evidenced by her commitment to her school, her family and to her community,” said Lori Hill, Liberty Bell of the West Chapter’s Scholarship Chair and Regent.
